New gear

Finally!, today my order has arrived. A black, bad-ass Canon EOS 5D Mark II and two lenses: Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L and Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM. Along with other small, but useful things: a Canon Speedlite 580 EX II, a battery grip, memory cards and so on.

The star here is the quite huge Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM. It has superb optics, a quite fast focus and great sharpness. Well, being a L-lens, it’s said it is supposed to be so. However, with the 24-70mm things are somehow different. Still a L-lens, but rather soft at faster apertures and as a bonus, mine has constant back-focus. I will definitely go as soon as possible to get it calibrated. Another thing that gets on my nerves is that the grip between the lens and the camera mounts isn’t perfectly…perfect. Like I am used to with my Olympus. Instead you can feel a slight “click” and some movement when you pick up the camera with one hand by its grip.

All in all, great value for the bucks, but Canon won’t get my 5 stars’ award this time.
